Summary

The Virginia Tech College of Natural Resources offers a Certificate of Graduate Study in Natural Resources. This program requires the completion of a minimum of 12 credit hours of graduate course work. At least 9 of these credit hours must be earned in courses offered by the College of Natural Resources at the Northern Virginia Center or another off-campus location (including virtual campus courses). The remaining 3 credit hours may be earned in approved courses other than those offered by the College of Natural Resources. This includes, but is not limited to, courses offered as part of the Master of Public Administration (MPA) and Master of Urban and Regional Planning (MURP) programs at the Virginia Tech.

Student seeking the Certificate of Graduate Study in Natural Resources must complete NR 5724 (Conservation Ecology). The remaining courses needed to meet the 12-credit-hour requirement can be selected with the approval of the member of the College of Natural Resources faculty responsible for Northern Virginia programs. Typically, these courses would include NR 5714 (Ecosystem Management) and NR 5734 (Biological Realities of Natural Resource Policy and Management). Additional courses are selected in order to meet the student's professional and/or personal goals.

Credit hours must be in 5000 or higher level courses. However, three credit hours (one course) may be at the 4000-level if the course is approved for graduate credit and is approved by the member of the CNR faculty responsible for Northern Virginia programs. To be eligible to receive the Certificate, students must have a QCA of 3.0 or above within the 12 credit hours required. The College of Natural Resources will award the certificate upon completion of a minimum of 12 credit hours of approved courses and upon petition by the student.
